The new Subaru Forester Wilderness is an off-ready version of the legendary Forester. It adds plenty of off-road upgrades such as improved ground clearance, a rugged exterior design, all-terrain tires, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, 17-inch matte black wheels, a skid plate, and a redesigned drivetrain.
The new Wilderness is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine that produces 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. The engine received a number of upgrades to improve low-speed climbing and overall performance. It is mated to a CVT and can tow up to 3,000 pounds.
The Forester Wilderness has an EPA fuel rating of 25 mpg city/28 hwy. The Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive boasts a balanced design for enhanced stability and traction on any surface. The Wilderness has 9.2 inches of ground clearance and a front skid plate for extra protection. The front and rear bumpers were redesigned for improved clearance.
The Forester Wilderness comes standard with Yokohama Geolander all-terrain tires and a full-size spare that is stowed beneath the cargo area. The upgraded dual-function X-Mode system features settings for mud, snow, dirt, and deep snow. The redesigned roof rails can hold up to 800 pounds when parked. The exterior features rugged cladding on the lower impact zones and over the wheel wells. The hood features a matte black accent to reduce glare.
The interior of the new Wilderness is durable and easy to maintain. The upholstery is designed to repel water and boasts cooper stitching and a honeycomb design. The cabin also includes a wide opening rear gate, 60/40-splt rear seats, and a rear LED cargo light. The rear cargo space measures 69.1 cubic feet with the seats folded down.
